The U.S. Census Bureau has published the latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for July 2025. The BFS offer updated data on new business applications and formations across the United States. This information is collected and released monthly, providing insights at the national, regional, and state levels.

According to the Census Bureau, the BFS are produced in partnership with economists from several institutions, including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

The dataset contains 12 different series—four tracking applications and eight following actual business formations. Both seasonally adjusted and nonseasonally adjusted data are included in each release.

In addition to these statistics, the Census Bureau also made available Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications. This experimental product uses a methodology consistent with that used for U.S. business formation statistics and provides four monthly series specific to Puerto Rico.

There was no separate news release associated with this announcement; only a tip sheet was issued by the agency.
