The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated statistics on state-to-state migration flows and place of birth for 2024. The data provide insight into the movement of people across the United States, including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

The new information is available in a table package that includes estimates of how many people moved between different states and territories, as well as figures showing where current residents were born. These statistics are drawn from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.”

No formal news release was issued alongside this update; it was distributed as a tip sheet.
