Texas Tech University reported on April 7 that it has achieved higher placements in the 2026-27 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Programs rankings, particularly in engineering and law.
The university highlighted the importance of graduate education for innovation and workforce development. “Graduate education is essential for innovation and for meeting the demands of a highly skilled workforce,” said Mark Sheridan, dean of the Graduate School. “These rankings reflect the growing quality of our graduate programs and Texas Tech’s impact on innovation and supporting the economy of the state and nation.”
The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering showed significant progress, moving up 12 spots to No. 105 overall, with seven programs ranked within the top 100 nationally. Petroleum engineering was noted as Texas Tech’s highest-ranked program at No. 8, marking its third consecutive year in the top ten.
The School of Law also received recognition by placing at No. 85 overall, ranking within the top half among honored schools, with thirteen individual law programs included—four showing improved marks compared to last year.
Other areas where Texas Tech earned recognition include its College of Education at No. 84 overall (top three among Texas schools), as well as placements in business (No. 105), part-time MBA (No. 98), and public affairs (No. 140). The new rankings also covered several disciplines such as biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, mathematics, physics, statistics, and fine arts.
