Texas has reached a new economic milestone, surpassing 3 million registered business entities as of November 2025. This figure represents more than double the number of businesses registered in the state ten years ago, when there were just over 1.4 million entities in 2015.
Governor Greg Abbott commented on this achievement, stating: “Texas now has more than 3 million registered businesses, more than double from when I took office. This milestone shows the true strength of the Texas economy. Texas is the land of freedom and opportunity where businesses and workers can chart their own path to succeed and thrive. With no corporate or personal income tax, a highly skilled and diverse workforce, and the best business climate in the nation, Texas attracts innovators and entrepreneurs from across the country and around the world.”
Secretary of State Jane Nelson also recognized this development: “This is a proud moment, and I congratulate all the entrepreneurs who are choosing to do business here in Texas. Reaching the 3 million active entities mark demonstrates the strong confidence the business community has in our state, and there are no signs of this trend slowing down. My office remains committed to delivering efficient, reliable service to support business formations and operations in Texas.”
The total number includes both companies formed within Texas as well as out-of-state firms that conduct business in Texas. The most common type of entity among these registrations is limited liability companies (LLCs) established within Texas.
To accommodate this growth, the Office of the Secretary of State has been updating its services with modern technology and online resources. In September, it introduced Texas Express—a system offering same-day and next-day processing for many types of business filings.
