Governor Greg Abbott has announced the launch of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO), which is based within the Office of the Governor. Alongside this, a new website and Regulation Evaluation Portal have been made available to the public.
“The State of Texas operates at the speed of business, and this new Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office will ensure we continue to foster economic opportunity and protect individual liberty,” said Governor Abbott. “By cutting red tape and rooting out unnecessary regulations, we will make state government more responsive and more efficient to serve the people and job creators of Texas.”
The TREO website is intended to be a central location for updates on efforts to reduce regulatory burdens in Texas. The site includes a portal where residents can submit feedback or recommendations regarding state regulations that may need review.
Earlier in October, Jerome Greener was appointed as Director of TREO by Governor Abbott.
Senate Bill 14, signed into law by Governor Abbott in April, created TREO. The office is tasked with helping state agencies identify rules that are unnecessary or ineffective, assessing regulatory costs on the public, and providing guidelines for agencies when adopting new rules. These guidelines include requirements for analyses such as cost and employment impact statements.
