The Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office announced on Apr. 20 that the Texas Film Commission will hold a virtual Film Friendly Texas Workshop on Thursday, May 21. The event is open to communities interested in job creation and economic growth through media production by becoming Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities.
Governor Greg Abbott said, “Texas’ growing media production industry supports local jobs and creates revenue in communities across our great state. The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract new investments in media production, and create good-paying jobs for Texans. I invite all Texas communities to attend this workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community.”
The workshop is cohosted by the Texas Film Commission and Visit Granbury. It includes professional development sessions such as “How to Become a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community.” Attending this type of workshop is required for certification. City or county government employees, convention and visitors bureau staff, chamber of commerce members, or those from local economic development corporations who will act as designated liaisons are encouraged to participate.
The virtual event will take place from 9:30 AM to noon Central Time on May 21. More information about registration can be found at gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_workshops.
Since its launch in 2007, the program has certified more than 200 communities focused on developing media production industries in the state. Details about the program are available at gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview.
For over five decades, the Texas Film Commission has promoted film, television, commercial projects, animation, visual effects, video games, and extended reality productions throughout the state.
