The Texas Film Commission announced on Dec. 2 that Ali Nichols, a longtime Production Team Lead, has been named Deputy Director. Nichols brings fifteen years of experience to the position, having started with the commission in 2009 as a production intern.

Nichols’s appointment is significant for the organization as she has played a key role in scouting locations across Texas and working with industry professionals to bring film projects to the state. She has also managed programs aimed at developing media infrastructure and has represented the commission at various events including film festivals and city council meetings.

In her new role, Nichols will continue assisting productions navigating filming in Texas while focusing on staff growth and evolving the commission’s work to support more projects and programs. The newsletter also highlighted an interview with creatives behind “One Battle After Another,” filmed in El Paso, emphasizing the benefits of shooting in Texas.

The commission reported recent outreach efforts across several cities. Staff members attended events such as the Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth, Amarillo Film Fest, Filmmakers in Focus panel discussion in Houston, Round Top Film Festival, TEDC Annual Conference in San Antonio, Industry Giants conference in Richardson, AICP Awards in Dallas, and “The State of Texas Film” discussion hosted by the LBJ Foundation in Austin.

Additionally, job opportunities are available at the commission for positions including Marketing Specialist and Intake Coordinator based in Austin. The organization congratulated Alfred Cervantes on his 30-year anniversary with the Houston Film Commission.
