Governor Greg Abbott announced on Apr. 17 that the Texas economy expanded to a record $2.9 trillion in 2025, based on preliminary estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis for the state’s current-dollar gross domestic product (GDP). The data also show that Texas grew at a rate of 2.5% when adjusted for inflation, outpacing national economic growth.
This economic milestone highlights Texas’s position as a leading state for business and job creation, with growth driven by workforce productivity and investment from entrepreneurs and companies. “The Texas economy expanded to a record high of $2.9 trillion thanks to the productivity of our skilled workforce and the entrepreneurs and businesses investing here with confidence,” Abbott said.
Abbott credited pro-growth policies and what he called “the Best Business Climate in America” for attracting job creators from across the country and world. He added: “We will keep attracting world-class investment, create jobs, and expand opportunity for Texans for generations to come.” According to preliminary estimates from the International Monetary Fund cited by Abbott’s office, Texas maintains its rank as the eighth-largest economy compared to nations worldwide based on current-dollar GDP figures for 2025.
Since Abbott took office in January 2015, the state’s GDP has grown from $1.59 trillion to $2.9 trillion at year-end 2025—a rise representing a 46% expansion over eleven years when adjusted for inflation.
The Office of the Texas Governor is part of state government’s executive branch, working to promote economic opportunities, education, public safety, appointing board members and assisting constituents while collaborating with businesses and local governments according to its official website. The governor’s office also advances cultural understanding through commissions supporting women’s opportunities and people with disabilities according to its official website.
Greg Abbott serves as the state’s forty-eighth governor according to its official website. The Governor’s Mansion—established in 1856—is not only his residence but also stands as one of America’s oldest continuously occupied governor’s homes according to its official website.
