Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO), in partnership with the City of San Augustine and San Augustine Main Street, will host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, September 29. The event will be held both virtually and in person at the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce.
“Music is key to the Texas brand,” Governor Abbott said. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in San Augustine, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will participate in the workshop to explain how communities can become designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. She will also discuss the benefits of certification and answer questions from attendees.
The TMO’s Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program began in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind nationally. It provides a framework for localities to encourage music industry development and signals to professionals that certified areas are committed to supporting music-related growth. This upcoming workshop marks San Augustine’s initial step toward joining more than 85 other cities across Texas that have already achieved this designation.
The workshop is open to musicians, venue operators, and members of the public who wish to attend either online or onsite. Additional information about participating can be found through contacting Shelby Curtis, Main Street Manager for San Augustine.
