Samsung has announced a $1 million donation to aid Texas flood relief efforts. The company has chosen the Rebuild Texas Fund, which operates under the OneStar Foundation, to help provide both immediate and long-term recovery support in areas most affected by recent flooding. The fund works with local leaders and organizations to identify community needs and funding gaps. Samsung’s $900,000 contribution will be distributed through this partnership.
Additionally, Samsung is directing up to $100,000 toward its employee giving program. This includes corporate matching for donations made to three specific community funds: the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country flood relief fund and the Central Texas Community Foundation, which collaborates with Travis and Williamson Counties on their respective relief initiatives.
Bonyoung Koo, president of Samsung Austin Semiconductor, stated: “Our hearts are with the communities and families who have been impacted by the catastrophic flooding in Texas. As a proud Texas-based company for nearly 30 years, we are deeply committed to supporting our neighbors and helping them recover from these devastating floods.”
Flooding throughout July has caused significant damage across 21 counties in Texas and resulted in multiple fatalities.
Chris Bugbee, president and CEO of OneStar Foundation, said: “Samsung and Texas have a strong partnership that goes beyond business. Samsung is dedicated to Texans and they’re deeply rooted in our state. With this donation they will help provide much-needed assistance to those who need it most.”
In addition to financial contributions, Samsung employees have volunteered at flood recovery sites as part of the company’s #WeChipIn initiative.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor employs about 4,500 people in Central Texas. The facility is recognized as one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturing operations. More information can be found at https://semiconductor.samsung.com/sas.
