Dallas’ historic Neiman Marcus flagship store at 1618 Main Street will remain open beyond the 2025 holiday season, according to Saks Global. The company, which acquired Neiman Marcus Group for $2.7 billion last year, stated it is “committing to serving its loyal customer base in Dallas” as discussions with city officials continue regarding the future of the nine-story property.

This announcement follows a period of uncertainty during which Saks had considered closing the downtown location as early as January before postponing the closure to March. The possibility of losing this retail landmark, which has operated since 1907 and played a significant role in shaping Dallas’ reputation in fashion, led to widespread concern among city leaders and business stakeholders.

Efforts from city officials and developers emphasized the importance of keeping the flagship open for both Main Street’s identity and downtown’s ongoing development. Dallas City Manager Kim Tolbert said the city “celebrates” the extension and will continue working with Saks Global Executive Chairman Richard Baker on long-term solutions for maintaining Neiman Marcus downtown. Tolbert highlighted that the store has helped elevate Dallas as a global retail destination and remains integral to the neighborhood’s culture.

While Saks considers future plans for the more than 100,000-square-foot building—including potential uses such as an events venue or a fashion museum honoring Neiman Marcus’ legacy—the company is also investing approximately $100 million in renovations at its NorthPark Center location. This reflects a broader strategy of reinvestment even though decisions about downtown’s site are still pending.

The discussion about Neiman Marcus comes at a time when Dallas is preparing for major events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and evaluating redevelopment opportunities across its downtown area. The outcome for Neiman Marcus’ flagship is expected to influence these broader conversations about real estate renewal in central Dallas.
