Rocky Mountain PBS and Xcel Energy have formed a partnership to launch Partners in Prevention, an initiative focused on wildfire mitigation and preparedness across Colorado. The program aims to provide education and support for communities throughout the state.
The collaboration involves working with first responders, city and state agencies, the American Red Cross, and other local partners. Their goal is to equip Coloradans with information and tools needed to lower wildfire risks.
Partners in Prevention will use Rocky Mountain PBS’s media platforms along with the experience of utilities and public agencies to deliver accessible information statewide. The initiative plans to reach urban, rural, and mountain areas through television broadcasts, online content, community events, virtual gatherings, and educational materials for families.
“At Rocky Mountain PBS, our mission is to serve the public good by providing trusted, relevant information that helps Coloradans navigate critical issues,” said Amanda Mountain, President & CEO of Rocky Mountain Public Media. “Through Partners in Prevention, we’re working with Xcel Energy and safety-focused partners across the state to amplify lifesaving information—especially to those communities that are hardest to reach.”
A new online resource hub has been launched as part of this effort. It offers wildfire safety guidance, preparedness tips for families and children, educational content, and links to emergency resources at both local and statewide levels. The hub will be updated regularly with new material.
“Public outreach is a core principle of our wildfire mitigation strategy,” said President Robert Kenney of Xcel Energy Colorado. “Helping our customers and emergency responders stay informed and prepared can save lives and property. Preventing catastrophic wildfires takes collective action, and everyone has a role to play.”
Partners in Prevention reinforces both organizations’ commitment to public service by helping residents stay informed before, during, and after emergencies. More details about the initiative are available at rmpbs.org/wildfire.
