Peter Tsoukalas named special representative for IAM Canadian territory

Peter Tsoukalas has been appointed as Special Representative for the Canadian Territory of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), effective February 1, 2026. The announcement was made by IAM International President Brian Bryant.

Tsoukalas is a 25-year member of IAM Locals 1751 and 2309. He most recently served as General Chairperson for IAM District 140 in Quebec since 2017, where he contributed to organizing efforts and led negotiations on collective agreements.

David Chartrand, IAM Canadian General Vice President, commented on the appointment: “Peter has earned the respect of members through his commitment, integrity, and tireless advocacy for working people. He will play an important role in strengthening our union and advancing workers’ rights throughout Canada.”

Throughout his career as a trade unionist, Tsoukalas has negotiated contracts that set standards in wages and working conditions within the industry. His leadership roles have included Shop Steward, Chief Steward, Local Executive Board member, and Executive member of the Quebec Machinists Council.

IAM International President Brian Bryant stated: “Peter Tsoukalas is a proven leader who understands how to organize, bargain, and deliver real results for our members. His experience and dedication will be a major asset as we continue growing the IAM across Canada.”

Reflecting on his new role, Tsoukalas said: “Strong unions are built on trust, unity, and results. When members believe in their union and stand together, no challenge at the bargaining table or beyond can divide us.”

Tsoukalas expressed ongoing commitment to supporting IAM’s mission to defend workers’ rights and improve standards for working families across Canada.
