Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on May 6 that he will distribute $1.4 billion in local sales tax allocations for the month of May, an increase of 7.7 percent compared to May 2025.
The distribution of these funds is significant as it supports cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose districts across Texas by providing revenue based on recent business activity.
According to Hancock, “these allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.” The breakdown for May includes $873.9 million allocated to cities (up 6.1 percent from last year), $291.4 million to transit systems (up 9.5 percent), $87.2 million to counties (up 11.1 percent), and $141.7 million to special purpose districts (up 12.6 percent). Year-to-date changes also show increases across all categories.
For those seeking more information about specific distributions or comparisons with previous periods, details can be found through the Comptroller’s Monthly Sales Tax Allocation Comparison Summary Reports.
These monthly allocations provide important funding for local services and infrastructure throughout Texas communities.
