The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, legislation designed to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers.

The IAM’s appeal follows President Donald Trump’s executive order issued on March 27, which ended collective bargaining for federal unions. The union described this action as “an attack on civil servants and their rights as workers.”

IAM International President Brian Bryant addressed lawmakers in both chambers, stating in letters to the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate: “IAM Union strongly supports the Protect America’s Workforce Act for restoring collective bargaining rights to the nation’s federal workforce.”

The bill, known as H.R. 2550, was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA). According to IAM, it has garnered strong bipartisan support.

“Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits,” stated IAM leadership.

The IAM represents thousands of federal employees nationwide through its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which covers approximately 110,000 federal workers across the United States.
