A group of representatives from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), led by Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli and Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, visited the Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids. The visit was organized with the Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee to observe the facility’s production systems and recognize the contributions of IAM members.

The Cedar Rapids plant is known as the world’s largest cereal mill and is responsible for producing Cap’n Crunch cereals along with other products.

“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”

During their visit, IAM representatives addressed issues such as workplace safety protocols, training opportunities, and economic priorities. These discussions are part of a broader effort to strengthen union representation at major employers like Quaker Oats.

Facility workers provided feedback about ongoing challenges and potential improvements within the plant. Union leaders emphasized that maintaining solidarity among IAM members is important as contract negotiations approach. They also noted collaboration with other unions present at the facility, including SMART and BCTGM, which supports collective efforts for better working conditions.
