IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes was reelected to the executive board of the Union Label and Service Trades Department, AFL-CIO, during its 72nd Convention held at AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, according to a May 5 statement. The event brought together labor representatives from across the country.

The convention highlighted ongoing efforts to support union-made products and services as an important part of sustaining jobs and strengthening unions. This message is considered significant for union members and their families as it emphasizes economic solidarity within the labor movement.

Cervantes said, “Being reelected to this board is an honor, but more than that, it’s a charge. When we look for the union label and choose union-made products and union-provided services, we are supporting one another in the most direct way possible. Every union purchase protects a union job, sustains a union family, and strengthens the movement we’ve all dedicated our lives to building.”

Other IAM officials attending included Assistant Secretary Paul Kendall; Bryan Pinette, Special Assistant to the General Secretary-Treasurer; and DeLane Adams, Director of Rapid Response and Mobilization. Richard Kline was elected to another term as Union Label & Service Trades President.

The convention report noted that organizing activity increased across industries in 2025 despite overall lower levels of union density compared with previous decades. Delegates also heard from David Woods of BCTGM and Nicole Rhine of NALC about current issues facing workers.

Convention leadership encouraged affiliates to promote Airtable—a searchable database for identifying union-made goods—and expand digital outreach connecting consumer choices with worker advocacy. The event concluded with a call for attendees to continue looking for the union label when making purchases.
