The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) announced on Apr. 7 that registrations are now open for the Retirees Assistance Program, which will take place from June 14 to June 19, 2026, at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, Maryland.
The program aims to provide IAM retirees with resources and education to address challenges faced during retirement. Organizers say it is designed to help participants better navigate this stage of life by offering practical tools and knowledge.
According to the announcement, attendees will participate in educational sessions covering elder abuse awareness, mental health, self-care strategies, senior addiction issues, healthcare navigation skills, and opportunities for volunteering. The curriculum also includes training on finding community resources, understanding dementia, financial planning and asset protection methods, considerations for senior housing options, preparation for doctor visits, sensitivity training sessions, and advance directives.
Details regarding tuition costs, transportation arrangements and curriculum structure are outlined in the official call letter provided by IAM policy.
This initiative reflects a broader effort within labor organizations to support their members beyond active employment years by addressing evolving needs related to health care access and financial security during retirement.
