A private home designed by architect I.M. Pei was listed for sale at $22 million, becoming the most expensive publicly listed home in Fort Worth, according to an April 10 announcement.

The listing is notable because it is one of the only known private residences designed by Pei, who was known for landmarks such as the Louvre Pyramid and Dallas City Hall. The estate was commissioned in 1969 by oil heiress Anne Burnett Tandy and her husband Charles Tandy, and has stayed in their family for over fifty years.

The mansion measures about 19,000 square feet and sits on approximately four acres in Westover Hills. It features seven bedrooms, three kitchens, several living and dining spaces, two climate-controlled wine cellars, a dedicated art gallery, a pool, and a putting green. A dramatic garden room with a steel-and-glass ceiling filtered through wood lattice highlights Pei’s geometric design style.

Pei described the house as suitable for “two people — or two or three hundred,” he said in an interview with House and Garden magazine in 1970. The property remained with the family after Charles Tandy’s death in 1978 and Anne Tandy’s death in 1980; it later served as home to philanthropist Anne Marion until her death in 2020.

Brokers believe that despite its high price compared to typical Fort Worth listings, the home’s unique design history will attract interest from buyers across national and international markets. Pei won the Pritzker Prize in 1983 before his death at age 102 in 2019; he is believed to have designed only two other private homes in the United States.
