Colin Fitzgibbons, president of Hunt Realty Investments, has died at the age of 46. The company did not specify a cause of death, but according to sources cited by the Dallas Morning News, he passed away from complications related to cancer.

Chris Kleinert, CEO of Hunt Realty, described Fitzgibbons as “a singular leader whose loyalty, intellect and self-deprecating humor powered the investment firm through a slate of high-impact projects.”

Fitzgibbons was a Dallas native with family ties to both journalism and real estate. His mother, Ruth Fitzgibbons, served as an editor at D Magazine. His father, Jay Fitzgibbons, led JSC Realty and developed industrial properties in North Texas. Colin began his career as a sports reporter for The Washington Post before moving into commercial real estate at the Staubach Company in New York.

He returned to Dallas for graduate studies at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he earned an MBA. In 2010, he joined KDC and contributed to major developments including Richardson’s CityLine project and Plano’s Legacy West development. He once wrote on LinkedIn that he loved an industry where “people are rewarded if they’re willing to hustle.”

Fitzgibbons joined Hunt Realty in 2020. He noted that working on large-scale projects in Frisco, Uptown and downtown Dallas attracted him to the company. Hunt Realty is known for shaping Dallas’ skyline through its investments dating back to the Reunion project in the 1970s.

Outside his professional life, Fitzgibbons was involved with several organizations such as The Real Estate Council, NAIOP North Texas chapter, SMU’s Folsom Institute and Oak Cliff YMCA.

He is survived by his wife Jessica and their three sons. Kleinert said that Fitzgibbons’ influence would continue within Hunt Realty beyond his six years there: “His devotion to family guided how he showed up for colleagues and partners alike.”
