Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed the disaster proclamation for fire weather conditions in Texas, extending emergency measures for numerous counties across the state. The original proclamation was issued on August 10, 2025, and has been updated several times since then due to persistent threats.
According to Governor Abbott’s office, “increased fire weather conditions pose an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property in several counties.” The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that these hazardous conditions continue in certain areas.
The renewed disaster declaration now applies to a long list of counties throughout Texas. Under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, the Governor authorized the use of all available resources from both state government and political subdivisions as necessary to address this ongoing situation.
Additionally, Governor Abbott stated: “any regulatory statute prescribing the procedures for conduct of state business or any order or rule of a state agency that would in any way prevent, hinder, or delay necessary action in coping with this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval of the Office of the Governor.” He further authorized suspension of statutes and rules related to contracting or procurement if they would impede emergency response efforts needed to protect lives or property during this declared disaster.
The official document is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson. Copies have been filed with relevant authorities as required by law.
