Texans who experienced job loss or disruption due to the severe storms and flooding in the Hill Country earlier this summer have until September 4, 2025, to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), according to a reminder issued by Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

“Texans who lost their jobs or had their work disrupted by the catastrophic Fourth of July floods should know that recovery resources remain available to them,” said Governor Abbott. “Disaster Unemployment Assistance provides a lifeline for families as they continue to recover and rebuild. Impacted Texans need to apply before the September 4 deadline so they can get the support they need and deserve.”

The DUA benefits are available under President Donald J. Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration for individuals in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties whose employment was affected by storm-related damage.

Eligible applicants can submit their claims online through Unemployment Benefit Services or call TWC at (800) 939-6631. All applications must be filed by September 4.

To qualify for DUA benefits, individuals must meet certain criteria such as having exhausted regular unemployment benefits or not qualifying for them; being unable to work because of physical damage at their workplace caused by the disaster; losing primary income due to disaster impact; being injured as a result of the event; becoming head of household due to death related to the disaster; or being unable to reach their place of employment because of blocked access from storm effects.

Applicants are required to provide documentation within 21 days from filing an application. This includes proof of Social Security number and evidence showing employment or self-employment status at the time of the disaster or plans to begin such work that were prevented by storm damage. Failure to submit proof within this period will result in halted payments and may require repayment of any received funds. The TWC may use existing wage records when available.

Proof can be submitted most efficiently through TWC’s online UI Submission Portal by selecting “DUA Proof of Employment at Time of Disaster.” Those without internet access may fax documents or mail them directly:

Additional resources including job search tools, résumé preparation assistance, career development services, and employer connections are accessible through local Workforce Solutions offices and via TWC’s online job-search engine at https://www.workintexas.com/vosnet/Default.aspx.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management encourages residents with property damage from recent storms to report it using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT), which assists officials in determining eligibility for federal aid programs like DUA.
