Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Michael H. “Mike” Lewis as Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner. Lewis will serve in this role until July 12, 2031. The commissioners oversee the administration of the Sabine River Compact, which is an agreement between Texas, Louisiana, and the United States.

Lewis is currently an investigator with the Newton County District Attorney’s office. He also serves on the Jasper/Newton County Health Board and is a member of both the Newton County Investment Committee and Bid Review Committee. In addition to his professional responsibilities, he participates as a county committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and is affiliated with Rainbow Masonic Lodge #735.

Lewis served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1970 to 1971 and received an honorable discharge. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University.
