Governor Greg Abbott delivered the keynote address on April 27 at the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony, where he honored law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. During the event, Abbott awarded the Texas Medal of Honor to a family member of each of the 25 officers recognized.

“The people of Texas hold you in eternal gratitude for your brave, selfless service,” said Governor Abbott. “This memorial serves as an eternal reminder of the heroes taken from us too soon. Their lives mattered, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten. May God bless the men and women who serve and protect our communities.”

Abbott reflected on how today’s law enforcement continues a tradition that began with early lawmen in Texas history. He said that while responsibilities have changed over time, commitment to public safety remains constant among those serving Texans.

The ceremony was attended by surviving spouses, family members, and state leaders.

The Office of the Texas Governor provides services and leadership across Texas as part of its role as the executive branch, promoting economic opportunity, education and public safety while supporting programs for women and people with disabilities according to its official website. Greg Abbott is currently serving as the 48th governor leading this office according to official records.

The event took place near other significant sites such as The Texas Governor’s Mansion—a Greek Revival building established in 1856—which stands as both a historic residence for governors and one of America’s oldest continuously occupied governor’s mansions according to official information.
