Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Martin Garza and reappointed Faith Johnson and Sichan Siv to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice. Their terms will run until February 1, 2031. The Board is responsible for the confinement, supervision, rehabilitation, and reintegration of convicted felons in Texas.

Martin Garza is retired and resides in Mission. He previously served as chief of police and city manager for the City of Mission, city manager for Weslaco, and chief of staff for Hidalgo County Precinct 3. Garza also chairs the Mission Redevelopment Authority/Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1. He holds an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Laredo College and a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Faith Johnson is a senior judge with the 363rd Judicial District Court in Dallas. She is affiliated with several legal organizations including the State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar Foundation, Dallas Bar Association, and J.L. Turner Legal Association. Johnson also serves on various boards such as The Potter’s House of Dallas, Inc., Women’s Leadership Summit committee, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Education in Community Counseling from Georgia State University as well as a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

Sichan Siv lives in San Antonio and is a former United States Ambassador to the United Nations as well as an author. His previous roles include Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. Siv currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, trustee at both the San Antonio Museum of Art and World Affairs Council, and deacon at First Presbyterian Church San Antonio. He received his Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.
