Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Robert Rucker as the Injured Employee Public Counsel, with a term ending on February 1, 2027. The Public Counsel position provides assistance to injured employees within the Workers’ Compensation system, manages the ombudsman program, and advocates for those affected.

Rucker is currently serving as general counsel for the Office of Injured Employee Counsel. His previous experience includes working as assistant general counsel at the Texas Department of Insurance. He is affiliated with both the State Bar of Texas and the Iowa State Bar Association. Rucker holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from The University of Texas at Austin and earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
