Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Stacy Hock as chair and Welcome Wilson, Jr. as vice chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Their terms will continue at the Governor’s discretion. The THECB is responsible for providing leadership and coordination across the Texas higher education system.
Stacy Hock, based in Austin, is a private investor and philanthropist with previous senior management experience at IBM. She has served as vice-chair of the THECB since May 2024. Hock is currently a board member for Atlas Energy Services, Texas Public Policy Foundation, and the American Federation of Children. Her past board roles include Brigham Minerals, Inc., Aminex Therapeutics, City Harvest, and The Bowery Mission. Hock holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin.
Welcome Wilson, Jr., from Houston, serves as president and CEO of Welcome Group, LLC. He is also a joint venture partner in Kingham Dalton Wilson Ltd. and executive vice president of River Oaks Financial Group. Wilson has been a member of the THECB since March 2018. His other roles include board membership at the Texas Higher Education Foundation and involvement with organizations such as the National Association of Industrial Office Properties and Alamo Trust, Inc. He also chairs or serves on several other boards including the Southwest Houston Redevelopment Authority and Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone 20. Additionally, he has held leadership positions with the University of Houston System Board of Regents and Kinkaid School Alumni Association. Wilson attended the University of Denver.
