Governor Greg Abbott has appointed JoMeka Gray to the State Board for Educator Certification. Her term will last until February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for developing certification and continuing education requirements as well as standards of conduct for public school teachers.

Gray works as a district and campus teacher leader at Kennedy-Powell STEM Elementary in Temple Independent School District. She has more than 12 years of experience in education, including teaching first grade at Killeen ISD and both kindergarten and first grade at Temple ISD. She has also served on the Contemporary Relevance Committee.

She is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Texas State Teacher Association, the Texas Classroom Teacher Association, and the National Education Association. In addition to her work in education, Gray volunteers with the Girl Scouts in Central Texas.

Gray holds a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Tech University. She also has an Early Childhood National Board Certification, Generalist (EC-6) Certification, and English as a Second Language Supplemental Certification.
