Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John E. Burt as the Jasper County Criminal District Attorney. Burt’s term will run until December 31, 2026.

Burt, who lives in Buna, is currently serving as the 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Jasper County. His previous roles include working as an assistant criminal district attorney in Newton County and practicing law privately. He also held positions as assistant superintendent and superintendent of Buna Independent School District. Burt has been involved with the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association and served as president of the Buna ISD School Board.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University, along with a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.

The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott is responsible for executive leadership across the state government, including appointments such as this one. The office focuses on areas like economic development, education improvement, job creation, and border security efforts according to its official website. Since his election in 2014, Governor Abbott has led these initiatives from the State Insurance Building in Austin.
