Governor Abbott appoints four to University of Houston System Board

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed four individuals to the University of Houston System Board of Regents. Tommy Lucas, O.D., and Lynden Rose have been appointed for terms ending August 31, 2031. Alonzo Cantu has been reappointed for a term also expiring in 2031. Bryan Clark was appointed for a term set to expire on August 31, 2029.

Tommy Lucas, O.D., from Harker Heights, is co-founder and president of VIEW Optometry. He previously served as president of the Texas Optometric Association and is a member of the American Optometric Association. Lucas is also co-founder and board member of Elevate Digital Optics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Baylor University and earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry.

Lynden Rose, based in Houston, works as an attorney and Of Counsel with HooverSlovacek LLP. He serves as vice chairman of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority Board, director on the board for TDECU, and trustee for the College of Biblical Studies. Rose was also appointed by the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Honorary Consul General to Houston and the Southwest Region. He received both his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Juris Doctor from the University of Houston.

Alonzo Cantu, from McAllen, leads Cantu Construction & Development Company as CEO and president. He chairs Lone Star National Bank’s board and sits on DHR Health’s board. Additionally, he founded Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) and is part of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Foundation Board. Cantu graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Finance from UH.

Bryan Clark resides in Friendswood where he works as a certified public accountant (CPA) and principal at Doeren Mayhew. Clark is affiliated with both the American Institute of CPAs and Texas Society of CPAs. He directs connect groups at Sagemont Church and formerly chaired Americans United for Life. Clark earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting and Marketing from UH.
