The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, which operates as part of the executive branch of state government, regularly appoints student regents to public university boards across Texas. The office is based in Austin at the State Insurance Building and has statewide authority and responsibilities, including education enhancement initiatives and parental empowerment in schooling, according to its official website. Governor Abbott has led the office since his election in 2014 and was named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2024 (source).
The governor’s office also focuses on job creation, economic opportunities, individual liberties protection, and southern border security (source). It collaborates with various organizations to support community programs and economic development throughout Texas.
Jennings’ appointment reflects ongoing efforts by state leadership to include student perspectives in higher education governance.
