Governor Abbott appoints Barry Wallace as Upshur County Criminal District Attorney

Barry Wallace has been appointed as the new Upshur County Criminal District Attorney by Governor Greg Abbott. The appointment will take effect on November 1, 2025, and Wallace will serve until December 31, 2026, or until a successor is elected and qualified.

Wallace currently serves as the first assistant in the Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. He is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, Texas District and County Attorneys Association, and the Northeast Texas Bar Association. He is also involved in his community through membership in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Men’s Association.

Wallace served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in History from East Texas A&M University (formerly East Texas State University) and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University.
