A Film Friendly Texas Workshop is scheduled to take place in Odessa on Thursday, October 16, as announced by Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Film Commission. The event is aimed at communities across the state interested in strategies for local job creation and economic expansion through media production.
“Texas’ growing media production industry supports local jobs and creates revenue in communities across our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract new investments in media production, and create high-paying jobs for Texans. I invite all Texas communities to attend this workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community.”
The workshop will be cohosted by the Texas Film Commission and Discover Odessa. It will include professional development sessions and information about how communities can become certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community. Attending such a workshop is one of the requirements for certification.
Community leaders who are employed by city or county government agencies, convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, or local economic development corporations—and who will serve as designated liaisons for facilitating media production inquiries—are encouraged to participate.
The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Odessa from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with registration starting at 8:00 AM. More details about registration can be found at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_workshops.
Since its launch in 2007, the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community program has grown to include more than 200 certified communities that focus on developing local media production industries for job creation and economic growth. Further information about the program is available at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview.
For over five decades, the Texas Film Commission has promoted film, television, commercial work, animation, visual effects, video game development, and extended reality production throughout the state as part of its role within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
