Union members from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida gathered in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference. The event brought together union members and retirees to meet with state representatives and senators, focusing on issues such as labor rights, better wages, and the protection of pensions and Social Security.
Leaders and activists at the conference highlighted their opposition to anti-union legislation. They stressed that such laws could undermine collective bargaining power and affect the financial security of working people. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class.”
The group engaged directly with lawmakers to represent machinists throughout Florida, including those from regions like the Kennedy Space Center, South Florida, and the Panhandle. Their goal was to influence state policy to improve conditions for union workers and to prepare for political engagement ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The IAM Florida State Council used this gathering as an opportunity to serve as a unified political voice for its members across the state.
