Megatel Homes, a private homebuilder based in Dallas, announced plans to launch its own digital payments and rewards token called MegPrime. The move follows the company receiving a “no-action” letter from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which indicates that the SEC does not plan to recommend enforcement action related to the initiative, as reported by Reuters.

This is Megatel’s first venture into digital currency. CEO Zach Ipour said the introduction of MegPrime is intended as an extension of the company’s housing ecosystem rather than a speculative investment. According to Megatel, “The token will be marketed strictly as a payment and rewards tool, not as an investment.”

Consumers using MegPrime will have access through a digital wallet and payment card that can be used at regular merchants. Users will earn rebates in additional tokens, discounted gift cards, and points that can be redeemed for housing-related benefits. The company emphasized that holders of MegPrime tokens will not gain any ownership rights, voting power, or profit participation in Megatel.

Ipour stated, “the company believes its scale — a multibillion-dollar homebuilding and financing operation — gives it a chance to ‘perfect this model’ by blending real estate transactions with digital currency incentives.” The new initiative builds on an earlier program launched by Megatel in 2019 that credited renters with an amount equal to their prior year’s rent toward purchasing a home.

Traditional companies have been exploring blockchain-based loyalty and payments programs. Under President Trump’s administration, the SEC has taken a more permissive approach toward cryptocurrency projects, easing regulatory concerns for firms considering similar initiatives.

Homebuilders generally have been cautious about adopting crypto due to volatility and regulatory risks following fluctuations in the sector. However, Megatel aims to address these concerns by positioning MegPrime as part of everyday spending and housing benefits instead of creating another tradable currency.
