The U.S. Census Bureau will begin its embargo of the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The data will be made available to the public on September 11.

The ACS collects information on various aspects of life in the United States, including language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It is recognized as the only source for local estimates on most of these topics.

Subscribers to the embargo will be able to access these statistics for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional districts, metropolitan statistical areas, and other geographic areas with populations of at least 65,000 starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. The embargo period ends on September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET.

Wire services and distribution outlets are not permitted to share news stories or data files before the public release date and time. The Census Bureau’s embargo policy outlines these restrictions.

“All data products on data.census.gov, the API, summary files, and other tools will be made publicly available by 10 a.m. ET on Sept. 11.”

Those interested in registering for embargo access can do so through the Census Bureau’s website: https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
