The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files in multiple formats, including Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage. These files are designed to help users create custom maps using a range of data sources.

The 2025 updates introduce new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These products include both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes that identify blocks split since 2020. This information can be connected to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.

Geospatial data provided by the Census Bureau cover legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as features like roads and hydrography. The geographic boundary data will be compatible with future demographic datasets from 2025 on data.census.gov, enabling users to map census tabular data.

While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic data themselves, they feature geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that allow users to link them with demographic information from the Census Bureau. The agency advises those needing assistance in selecting the appropriate product to consult the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
