Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) and the City of Brownwood will hold a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, October 6. The event will take place both virtually and in person at the Lehnis Railroad Museum and Visitor Center in Brownwood.
“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in Brownwood, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will attend the workshop to discuss what it means for a city to be designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. She will also explain how certification can benefit communities and answer questions from participants.
The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was launched by TMO in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind nationally. It provides cities with resources to support music industry development, creating opportunities for economic growth within their regions. Becoming certified signals to music professionals that these cities are committed to supporting music industry activities.
The upcoming workshop is part of Brownwood’s efforts toward certification. Once completed, Brownwood would join more than 85 other cities in Texas that have already received this designation.
Musicians, venue owners, and members of the public are invited to attend either online or at the physical location. Details about joining remotely are available on the City of Brownwood’s website or by contacting Tatiana Figueroa, Visitor Services Manager for further information.
