Austin-based Brohn Homes has acquired the Houston division of HistoryMaker Homes, marking its entry into the Houston market. The deal, which closed on December 12, was confirmed by Brohn Chief Operating Officer Greg Barber to the Houston Business Journal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

With this acquisition, Brohn gains a significant presence in Greater Houston, including a team of 30 local employees led by Roderick Flint and ongoing or planned projects in 13 master-planned communities. These communities include Sunterra in Katy, Attwater near Waller, Fulshear Lakes in Fort Bend County, Sierra Vista in Iowa Colony, and Azalea in Pattison.

HistoryMaker Homes has been active in Houston since 2016 and last year closed 247 homes locally while starting construction on another 238. This performance placed the company at number 32 among area builders by volume. Following the sale, Grapevine-based HistoryMaker will focus its operations exclusively on Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio.

CEO Nelson Mitchell described the transaction as a good cultural fit for both companies. “The companies’ shared values made the move a ‘natural alignment,'” he said.

Brohn Homes has operated in Austin since 2003 and was acquired by Clayton Properties Group—a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway—in 2018. The company expanded to San Antonio earlier this year and had considered entering the Houston market for some time. With this acquisition, Brohn increases its workforce from about 80 employees in Austin to roughly 110 across Texas.

Looking ahead, Brohn aims to build up to 1,000 homes per year in Houston within five years. The region remains competitive among national homebuilders despite recent cooling from pandemic-era highs.
