The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union) has announced an invitation for union members and allies to attend the 2026 AFL-CIO Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil & Human Rights Conference in Baltimore, scheduled for January 15-18, 2026.
The conference theme, “Honoring Our History – Fighting for Our Future,” will focus on connecting the history of labor and civil rights movements with current and future challenges. Organizers say this year’s event will highlight the continued link between these movements and emphasize learning from past experiences to guide future efforts.
“This conference is an important platform for dialogue and action at the intersection of labor rights and civil/human rights. It celebrates Dr. King’s enduring legacy while setting a course for collective strength in 2026,” according to event materials.
Attendees can expect discussions led by experts on issues such as collective bargaining rights, voting rights, threats to democracy, and economic justice. Workshops and breakout sessions are planned to give participants practical skills for organizing within their communities and workplaces.
“Whether you’re a rank-and-file member or a union leader, this is an opportunity to sharpen skills, build alliances, and leave ready to drive change,” organizers stated.
AFL-CIO recently appointed Alex Rias as Director of Civil, Human, and Women’s Rights. He will oversee this annual conference.
The event will be held at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor hotel. The negotiated room rate is $219 per night; early booking is recommended due to limited availability for accommodations on January 14.
Conference programming begins on the afternoon of Thursday, January 15, 2026.
