Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on March 11 that he will distribute $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations to cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose districts for the month of March. This amount represents a 2.1 percent increase compared to March 2025.
The allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report their taxes monthly. The distribution includes $683.3 million to cities, which is a slight decrease of 0.3 percent from last year but marks a 2.4 percent increase year-to-date. Transit systems will receive $238.8 million, up 6.8 percent from last March and up 2.9 percent for the year so far.
Counties are set to get $69.6 million, reflecting a 6.3 percent rise from the previous year and a 5.1 percent increase year-to-date. Special purpose districts will receive $112.3 million, an increase of 5.2 percent over last March and up by 6.9 percent for the year.
Hancock said these figures reflect ongoing changes in local economic activity as captured by monthly business tax reports.
