Governor Greg Abbott has announced that more than $10.9 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 37 organizations serving the North Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth area. The grants, administered by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), are expected to benefit over 4,500 veterans and their families across 32 counties.

“Texas is grateful for the brave men and women who selflessly served our country in the greatest military in the world,” said Governor Abbott. “The more than $10.9 million in grant funding will provide significant support and services to our veterans and their families in North Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth, including clinical counseling, service dog programs, and financial assistance. Texas will always support those who bravely put their lives on the line to defend our nation and our freedom.”

TVC Commission Secretary and Marine veteran Chuck Wright also recognized the work of local organizations: “I want to sincerely thank each of our award recipients for serving our veterans. Your organizations are recognized for making a difference in the lives of those who served. The North Texas and DFW area has a strong military community, and it is home to many veterans. It’s great seeing the community give back to those who served.”

Secretary Wright presented the grants at an event held at the Denton County Courthouse in Denton.

Recipients include groups providing a range of services such as clinical counseling, skill-based training, housing support, peer support services, financial aid, homeless veteran support, legal assistance through Veterans Treatment Courts, family support services, home modification programs, rental and mortgage assistance, as well as service dog programs.

Earlier this year in May, Governor Abbott announced $46.3 million distributed through over 200 grants to 175 organizations statewide—a record amount projected to help nearly 40,000 veterans along with their dependents and surviving spouses.

Since its inception in 2009 through the current 2025-2026 cycle, FVA has awarded more than $359 million via over 1,600 grants across Texas.

Funding for these initiatives comes primarily from proceeds generated by specific games offered by the Texas Lottery designated for veteran support. Additional contributions are made possible when Texans register vehicles or purchase hunting or fishing licenses.
