Governor Greg Abbott met with U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon to discuss recent legislative achievements affecting education in Texas. The meeting focused on changes from the 89th legislative session that impact parents, students, and educators.
Governor Abbott emphasized the progress Texas has made in education, citing increased opportunities for parents, students, and educators. He referenced $8.5 billion in new funding for public education and a $3.5 billion allocation for teacher pay raises. Abbott also mentioned the enactment of what he called the nation’s largest day-one school choice program.
“Texas parents, students, and educators now have more opportunities to reach their full potential,” Governor Abbott said during the meeting.
Secretary McMahon discussed her visit to Alpha School’s Austin Campus, where she observed graduates who are now attending college. She noted that Texas schools are using artificial intelligence as a tool to help students learn how to ask questions that improve their understanding of educational materials.
“The innovation of Texas schools using artificial intelligence as a beneficial tool to assist students in learning how to ask the right questions to better understand educational materials,” Secretary McMahon said.
